NWEA: This week our 2nd graders will be taking the reading portion of NWEA over a span of a few days.  There is really nothing that needs to happen from home besides the usual good night’s rest and encouragement to try his or her best each day.   Let us know if you have any questions.

Math News:  During this next week we will dive into learning about fractions.  Some of the activities that we will be doing include a fraction comparison, fraction sort, and fraction memory.

Science News:  Since arriving back from spring break we have been doing some fun learning about plants.   During these past two weeks we have explored the many ways that seeds disperse.  In the coming weeks we will investigate the needs of plants to have sunlight and water.  This is always a wonderful science unit to end the year.

Springtime Activities:  The days are getting longer and busier as spring activities are getting underway.  Please help your child perform well by getting enough sleep and continuing 20 minutes of reading and 5- 10 minutes of math fact practice nightly.  We appreciate the encouragement and support you give your child to do his/her best at school each day.  Thank you

Library Books:  Please help your child remember to return or renew his/her library books every Monday.  The media center is asking students to return late books and monitor how many books they have checked out to ensure all books are returned by the end of the year.

Math News: We have begun learning how to measure to the nearest inch and centimeter in math.  It would be helpful for students to spend some time measuring different items using a ruler or tape measure.  Some suggestions are measuring the length of a book, the height of a table, or the distance from the refrigerator to the sink.  Have your child give an estimate of a length or distance before measuring.  Recording the measurements on paper using the unit of measurement is beneficial.  Thank you for your support.
